"Prog" is rock music that is distinguished by complexity (e.g. odd time signatures), yet it is usually very melodic. Compositions tend to be longer and contain sprawled-out instrumental passages. It is played on typical rock instruments with unusual additions (like e-harp and theremin in the case of Frequency Drift), and it is open open to including electronic elements.
Frequency Drift takes inspiration from different genres, their overarching style is called "cinematic music" - music that evokes pictures in your head as you listen.
Electrofolk is a mix of indie folk and electronic music. It is often characterised by its simplicity and a focus on meaningful lyrics. As per its name, its sound can range from acoustic and timeless to electric and contemporary.
My alter ego CLARA LUANI was a project born out of being bored whilst travelling a lot. I composed and recorded most of the CLARA LUANI tracks on trains and airplanes using my iPhone. I wanted to see how far you can push the GarageBand sound and I often incorporated sound samples from my environment.
The singer-songwriter aesthetic is, more often than not, an acoustic guitar, a voice and carefully placed lyrics wrapped into pleasant melodies.
LEX & LIAN
Lex & Lian was a collaboration with my brother Max. Quick lyrics played a key role here, being confessional, story-telling and witty, while musically the songs were often characterised by organic changes in tempo, with a raw and folky feel. They also marked my detour into the world of playing guitar. The live show concept made use of video projection and whimsical lighting ideas.
Lateron, bassist and trumpeter Russell Snyder joined us, and we released the ANTÖNIÖ EP.

LOVE: GRETCHEN FRAGE
Being deeply impressed by the work of Erich Fromm, particulary his book The Art of Loving, I worked my LEX & LIAN singer-songwriter compositions surrounding the topic of "love in the 21st century" into a shoestring musical production for two singers, 2 guitars, a cajonito and 2 actors.
The musical premiered at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2013, featuring a minimalist stage concept sprinkled with performance art elements and audience participation.
THE LAST 5 YEARS
This video of "Summer in Ohio" is from a student production of Brown's THE LAST 5 YEARS, also a musical about loving and breaking up.
