How many colours can you tease out of a pair of vocal chords?
And how do you balance this with your goal to sound consistent and for each song to feel like it's "cast from the same alloy"?
It's finally done, all the vocals for the new Frequency Drift album are in the box!
I had a great time recording with Andreas and Nerissa. They both had clear visions for how they wanted me to sound in their compositions, but at the same time they gave me A LOT of freedom and room for interpretation, and often new ideas came up as we tried and listened back and tried again. The work was very intense at times, and I loved how we worked with a lot of imagery to get the sound right. As a result, this album will, for brief moments, feature some subtle sound colours, amongst them:
* my Dracula sound
* my Kurt Weill sound
* my whispery ghost sound
* my Disney sound
* my madwoman sound
* my paralysed sound
* my soul sound
We are in the process of planning the release date, and I will tell you more about the songs nearer the time. Until then, there is still lots of work to do: we are currently in the mixing phase to polish the sound, then there's mastering to make it sound awesome whatever device and speakers you use to listen to it, and then it needs to be distributed to stores and onto the web (which takes a surprisingly long time). I can't wait to share it with you!! It's like sitting on a secret you really want to tell :)
